Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

Write or paste the service name under the dosvc=2,4 line
Finally open Windows Update Blocker and use “Apply now” button. If you want to delete recently added service after a while please follow these steps:

Service List Options

With this GUI you can easily control services which added to Wub.ini [Service_List] section. You can add Maximum 25 service to Wub.ini. Wuausrv service showing only for informational purposes therefore you can not edit it.
NOTE: If the windows update service doesn’t start or if there is a problem even though you have enabled windows updates, please restart your system and try again. When windows updates are turned off, some windows processes or programs may try to open and repair Windows updates, resulting in windows update being damaged. Please use the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft if the updates do not open after restarting the system.

Thanks for the software. You seem to be answering a lot of questions lately. I thought that I would reprint a question I asked last August but do not recall getting an answer to. Thank you:

Do you believe any modifications will be needed to WUB 1.1 to avoid the new Windows 10 update (1809) scheduled to be released in October. Thank you.
Our software will not allow any service to run Windows update.
hello I’m using it wub in windows 10 but I have a question, it’s about the update orchestrator update orchestrator service that makes it only windows update. I just want to know if this tool prevents the sercicio windows update from being enabled

Given it is in a foreign language & I don’t code I am going to be cuatious about this myself

it is a small script to add block (take ownership) option to the right click menu. Plese use EN folder in zip file
>Try to use following right click add on (Folder_hide_protect)
Thanks for the link. It led me to a zip file called sagtus_ile_engel. Before opening it I searched the sordum website for sagtus_ile_engel and could not find it. I would prefer to know what it is before unzipping. Can you tell me what program this is? A GOOGLE search was inconclusive. Thank you.

@elle,@Patito,
>I’d like to take ownership and disallowed SYSTEM access to the SoftwareDistribution folder on C:\Windows, would you please advise how to do that? Thx…
@Patito
>I’ve also took ownership and disallowed SYSTEM access to the SoftwareDistribution folder on C:\Windows
Can you kindly lists the exact step by step procedure to do this. For the record I am running Win 10 Pro 1709. A cursory GOOGLE search seamed to focus mostly on renaming or deleting this folder. Thank you.
You say “(which is a registry change)”, so all this does is change a registry setting for each service specified in the ini? Do you know which setting it is? The tool is nice and nifty, but I’d like to know where in the registry it is, out of curiosity 😛
I couldn’t find the “orss
Service name: “osrss” service (Windows 10 Update Facilitation Service, of the Kokkat list) when I go to services.msc. I still added it to WUB, it won’t hurt I guess. I’m using a 1803 Enterprise. Since the last update that pesky “medic” service popped up and WU always seems to start on its own.
I’ve ALWAYS enabled the “restrict internet communication” policies, all of them. But recently I needed the root certificates update since no program (except for Firefox which has its own) could access HTTPS sites (Steam, Kindle, etc).
Until then WU had always been disabled but after changing the allow root certificates update policy to enabled it triggered the fucking WU and, even after disabling it afterwards, WU still keep coming back on. Weird.
Well, this WUB looks like the solution. I’ve also took ownership and disallowed SYSTEM access to the SoftwareDistribution folder on C:\Windows. Just in case <_<

>The list that elle posted on page 5 works well for me.
Just for the record that list was first posted by
@Kokkat
I just upgraded to 1803 and it seems to work fine. The list that elle posted on page 5 works well for me.
There are some services on that list which are initially protected. Like osrss and WaaSMedicSvc. WUB will set them as disabled (which is a registry change), but because they were started as protected services they cannot be stopped. So after WUB disables them, you have to reboot. Once you reboot the OS will come up with those services not running and showing as disabled.
I last month bought a laptop acer spin, the model is the top version with windows 10. Because of the crap of the updates I missed many hours of my work. It was by a thread send this all to the trash and buy MAC laptop, until I discovered (windows update blocker). This was fantastic, thank guys
I have been using wub version 1, ans Windows has been persistently trying to update. It is getting past Wub. I downloaded V 1.1 and windows won’t let it run. Help!
Of course
Does it works for the latest version (1803)?
