Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

Thanks for taking the time to write a comment. Default Wub.ini settings are :
BITS=2,4,3 – this service cannot be processed. The user could open it (optional)
DismHost.exe=1.0 – In the enable process, if the dismHost.exe process was prohibited, it was being removed.
There was no function in the Disable operation because it was set to 0.
In short, in wub.exe default settings, no action is taken during shutdown for these two options
[OS: Win10 Pro 21H2, fully updated but I refuse to get sucked in to Win11 land and Win10 22H2 was buggy for me despite the claim it was a "minor update"]
I really like this app, it is arguably my favorite app you guys have made, next to dControl and EdgeBlock. But there’s a few predefined settings in the INI I think should be altered or removed because they break certain critical functions. I knew how to modify the INI by myself because I’ve been building and fixing computers at the hard and software level for twenty years, but a less apt user might take the apps defaults as-is and might not know what to change or undo.
BITS=2,4,3
should be removed from the list. It’s a central process that governs far more than updates, and if it’s left in the non-auto state too long it can have long term repercussions if WUB is turned on and off occasionally to control when updates come through. because BITS does a lot in the background related to driver, service and scheduled tasks maintenance and upkeep.
dismHost.exe=1,0
This is another one which should be removed, it completely breaks all DISM functions, and if unacknowledged, it might make the entire battery of functions the Deployed Image Service Module seem broken out of the blue, and DISM is another one of those live-or-die by functions.
There’s more I would point out but those are the two elephants in the INI. I hope this does not fall on deaf ears because this is one of the most valuable Win apps out there, and less technically apt users being scared away from it because they think it broke their system would be unfortunate in regards to its usefulness in a toolbag of apps which are more potent than any paid counterpart.
@Intersting: Can no longer uninstall Edge.
@Sordum Team: did you try 21H2, 22000.348?
@John. Yeah, The latest Windows did something strange. I noticed it enabled page file on my D drive in addition to my C drive. I often check my D drive and this is new. Furthermore, I had to try a few times to remove the page file from D drive before it took.
Hi, We didn’t see a problem with the systems we tried. There is a possibility that a security update will be installed with Windows Defender updates. Also, a different windows component or service may have installed the relevant update.
This service or windows application will need to be detected and blocked.
Everything looks good, but Windows update still works fine and installed an update last night. This is a new beelink computer, running Windows 11 Pro 21H2, 22000.348. My other new computer is 22000.194, blocked successfully. Seems MS did something in 22000.348 to defeat WUB V1.7.
It doesn’t work. I am still getting their updates. It used to work but no more.
Will this program also block Cortana and Edge automatic updates?
@Adan
Windows store uses windows updates for downloads and installations. 🙁
excelente, lo eh probado, solo que en la tienda de windows marca error, es decir no deja descargas nada de la tienda, tienes algun otro parecido o la correcion?
Kayla: maybe your computer is blocking downloads because of user privilege – Try Administrator mode or download on another computer and copy to a flash drive and run the program from the flash drive – You’ll still may need to be in Administrator mode to run the program from the flash drive as well.
@Osiris, have you checked your vision recently? The download button is just above the comments, above related posts. BTW, Control F is your friend.
How do I actually download this program? Every download is about a Microsoft 32/64 bit driver. I want to block updates. How do I do it?
