Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

Wuausrv service showing only for informational purposes therefore you can not edit it.
NOTE: If the windows update service doesn’t start or if there is a problem even though you have enabled windows updates, please restart your system and try again. When windows updates are turned off, some windows processes or programs may try to open and repair Windows updates, resulting in windows update being damaged. Please use the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft if the updates do not open after restarting the system.

FINALLY….some of the other little apps out there work but windows enables the telemetry and updates on its own..i was disabling them daily until now..finally something that works..tried various fixes from websites and this and that…this did it..
THANKS!!!
Hi, this looks fine, thanks, just some remarks.
BITS: it’s not really Windows Update service and is required for various other programs. I don’t think it can’t be just left enabled while WU is disabled.
wuauserv: I use to keep WU on manual, putting it on disable will make some install fail (e.g. those requiring .NET framework)
As enabled, it would try to download some updates, but I am more concerned about Medic and Orchestrator. Why is the option to disable WU itself forced? I would like to keep it manual.
Task Scheduler: The initial state is NOT all enabled as the program assumes. This means that after disable then enable Windows Update using the program, many more tasks will be enabled. On my PC: UNP was disabled, Orchestrator in EN alphabetical order: ready, disabled, ready, disabled, disabled, disabled, ready, disabled, ready, ready, disabled, disabled, ready, ready, ready, ready
I see that except for UNP, in Orchestrator those tasks are either one-time or do not have trigger at all. Even though, so do some of those which were enabled. I like a behavior, where when doing a system tweak, the utility could return everything to the original state.
I suggest a solution by creating separate groups for TaskScheduler_List parameters (filename, pathname, exclude (skip)) and using parameters in TaskScheduler_List same as they are used in Service_List
So the program can keep and restore original states on Scheduler too.
Thanks a lot again for the program, WU and specially the stupid Medic are starting to be a real nuisance for a work-based PC.
Hello. There is a small bug. It will show Chinese Traditional language when opening this software in a Chinese Simplified system. I can confirm that this is not due to system, because your other softwares behavir normally.
Hi , You’re welcome
Great stuff. Sorted the stupid forced windows update problem.
Thanks.
It doesn’t block Defender Updates
Hello. Great program! Thank you. May I ask a question? Can only system updates be disabled with Windows Update Blocker? Let Windows Defender Updates Work?
Thank you.
If you have x64 system use x64
witch to use? wub or wub 64??
it applies the settings after selection
What the option "Apply settings during operations" does?
I just installed this WUB application and have already noticed that the irritating icon showing an update required is now gone. Windows updates have caused my system to crash because of conflicts in registry configurations. I am very pleased that this is now installed.
@Christopher
I have been using Wub.exe on 64 bit system for a long time. There was no problem.
Which version should I use, x86 or x64 or doesn’t it matter?
How did Microsoft release a piece of crap like this without testing to see it’s impact? The QA department is a total joke, if there’s one. Not only that they are not admitting to the issue and not even trying to fix it. I never had this problem on a Mac.
This program has saved my life! I used to have a low-end pc and sometimes I was working and suddenly the stupid windows update started updating without asking and drained a lot of resourced, mainly the disk, slowing down the performance and screwing what I was doing. This is a must-have app for any Windows pc (at least for Windows 10 Home, like me, where you cannot configure it to prompt before an update)
testing ok , in windows 10 20h2.
