Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

NOTE: If the windows update service doesn’t start or if there is a problem even though you have enabled windows updates, please restart your system and try again. When windows updates are turned off, some windows processes or programs may try to open and repair Windows updates, resulting in windows update being damaged. Please use the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft if the updates do not open after restarting the system.

Thanks to WUB I solved the unnecessary, long, deleterious updates of Windows 10. Each update caused problems. This Microsoft operating system is a crap.
Oh – when worrying about the possibility that Backup Scan might succeed in starting a new update sequence I had renamed the Windows\Software Distribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old which caused the current list of updates to disappear. SoftwareDistribution of course soon reappeared (empty) and remained empty after Backup Scan ran, but the list of updates reappeared (unchanged from the original).
None of the information about how all this garbage interacts may be news to you, but since I appreciate your efforts I thought I’d include it just in case.
Well, that was interesting. The ‘Backup Scan’ ran as scheduled but apparently accomplished nothing save to schedule a couple of other UpdateOrchestrator tasks (‘Schedule Scan’ and ‘USO_UxBroker’) which Wub had already disabled (and still were).
Perhaps Wub’s earlier actions had caused the Backup Scan to be scheduled after Wub ran. Just out of curiosity I ran Wub again and this time Backup Scan wound up disabled as well.
I may be worrying unnecessarily, but just noticed that all tasks scheduled for UpdateOrchestrator have been disabled save for a ‘Backup Scan’ which is scheduled to run usoclient.exe Start Scan in two days but has never run before. Since this is similar to Schedule Scan, now disabled by Wub but which runs the same action and ran a bit over a week ago at about the time I found out that setting both WiFi and Ethernet connections to metered was no long sufficient to discourage an update from 1803 to 1903 and applied Wub to prevent a threatened update to 1909, this seems ominous.
I tried to disable this event was was denied access, and could not find a way to accomplish it in Wub. I might succeed in denying read/run access to usoclient.exe but hope that you can just reassure me that everything will work fine as is. Reverting the laptop to its shipped state would presumably return it to a version more amenable to being properly controlled.
Thanks!
I would really like PSWindowsUpdate front end to control / disable updates
I’m getting notification that several Dell system updates need to be installed. I’m afraid this will undo WUB as it’s been working great. Can you please tell me if it’s safe to install Dell updates? Thanks!
