Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

Please use the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Microsoft if the updates do not open after restarting the system.

How can I be notified of updates/new releases for your programs?
I’m running 1.3 (which seems to be working fine) and only found out latest is 1.5 by coming here to check.
Thanks as always for being great. You provide invaluable services.
Yes, just choose "Enable Updates"
Can I get my Window updates back after I block it with this blocker? People change their minds, you know lol
Didn’t tested but probably yes
Does WUB block MS Office Updates? Some of the Office updates?
Just Use "Apply Now" button and close it That all
Do you have to leave it running and minimized for it to continue blocking updates, or can you close it after you’ve disabled updates and hit Apply Now?
WUB becomes more imperative I think since MS has announced its intention to RENT desktop software breaking away from WIN10 and any owned software (e.g. Win7). I think it is conceivable that MS in now motivated to weaken WIN10 t where is is forced to be a bridge ONLY to the rental software.
Thanks , we will try to do something next version
A very cool program, and is it possible to add “wuauserv” management as well as the ability to skip adding parameters to the registry in a future update?
Download “Windows update blocker” choose disable updates and Protect service settings finally click “Apply now” button thats all , you don’t have to disable services etc. Windows update blocker doesn’t run at startup. You don’t have to do something manually.
I forgot to menthion . After i disable everything in the Services list option. The top one Wuauserv i cant change the default service type . Or Disable service type . It wont let me check any of the options . The setting simble next to the word is turned Red. .
Im running 1803. I have everything for Edge ,Cortan ,windows update unistalled or changed in the regisrty. Even with all that somehow windows still try to update . Or at least i get a message saying i need to up date. So i downloaded update blocker . Disabled all the services you have listed. Checked the protect services . After i shut down my pc . For a couple of days . Some how some of the srervices are back to manual . I also tryed to save the wub to my start menu and it wont work . It would be very nice if this was an app . Somthing that we can run at start up. Some way to have a icon on our desk top. To see if its actuly running and on.
1803.1006 home. I’m aware of 11/2019 expiration.
I don’t use any MS software or MS store. I would still be on Win 7 but my laptop died in 2017 and I had to move to Win 10 on my new laptop that came with V.1703. I don’t use any “new” features that are offered and I want to get off this merry-go-round of feature updates. My laptop works just as I like it.
I wasn’t sure if I had to disengage wushowhide before I used WUB.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I love this Update Blocker … but is there a way for your freeware to check for windows updates and list them without actually installing them? Maybe you can add that feature.
quote from “E Falkner”
“I’m currently on win10 1803. and using wushowhide to block 1903. I’m guessing that will not work long term. Can Windows Update Blocker 1.5 work in tandem with wushowhide? My long term intention is to stay on 1803.”
what edition of Win10 v1803 are you running? support for home/pro editions of 1803 end in November 2019 and support for education/enterprise editions of 1803 end in November 2020.
you could stay on 1803 for as long as you want when using WUB + wushowhide.diagcab but your system will be vulnerable to new security threats after 1803 support ends
@Neal
I do not know the Edge is updated automatically. If WUB active, then only defender signature every 2 days automatically. The rest no updates automatically.
