Windows 11 and 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 11 & 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).
Windows Update Blocker is a freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system , with just a click of the button . This utility is portable, which means that you are no longer required to go through the installation process and no leftovers will remain on the HDD after its removal. if you place the program file to an external data device, you make it possible to take Windows Update Blocker everywhere with you and use it on any computer you come in contact with, who has things configured just right, and doesn’t want to take the chance that an update might mess up their system. This utility is for that person.
How it works
After downloading, extract Windows Update Blocker to your desired location, then run it
service status icon will show your windows Update service status , if you want to block Automatic Windows Updates Choose “Disable Service” And click “Apply Now” Button , Protect service setings can prevent Uncontrolled change (Recommended).

Awesome utility, thank you very much! It would be great if a future version continued blocking windows updates, but allowed Windows Defender (1) definitions and (2) antivirus engine upgrades. I wonder whether (2) is feasible, if windows updates are turned off.
Wub block some windows update services and disable them in Task Scheduler plus try to protect their status. For the the CPU usage of a specific service , did you tried to use Task manager ?

Hi again. I just noticed Update Orchestrator Service running . I manually stopped it, but is it something WUB is supposed to block?
I’m almost certain no updates from this week have been pushed, thanks again to WUB. What a great thing it is.
Also, do you know of any utility to display the CPU usage of a specific service? There are so many that run under each instance of svchost.
EDIT: This is a corrected version of previous post. Meant to say “service” not “task”, i.e. CPU of each service under the process (task) svchost.
If updates are blocked, there is no reason to use Settings -> “Windows Update” page “check windows update” will fail. If the update screen does not open in Windows settings, open the windows update with the new wub version and try again. If the problem persists, reboot the system and check again.
What about options to block or unblock getting to Settings -> “Windows Update” to force checking for an update by those that should not do it.
This would also be helpful for those of in environments where Group Policies are pushed down but to restrictive for some. I have seen where you go to Settings -> Windows Update and the title “Windows Update” is there but nothing else (dots going across the screen like it is trying). Being able to enable/disable this would be helpful.
Hi John, Microsoft will not update even if it tries
Tried to post below comment on your WUB page, keep saying please enter code, which I have done.
So my wife got a new laptop with Win 10. Prev had Win 8.1. I found WUB and loaded it, 7/24). It was working but today I noticed one task had turned back on in Task Scheduler-Windows-Windows update, and the Windows Update service was RUNNING again, and Windows Update Medic was back to MANUAL. Why can’t we completely stop and block these damned updates. Win Ver is 1809, I think that is what the laptop came with. I looked at Update History and did not see anything applied.
WUB v1.3 is still changing from Red (Disable Service) to Orange and Green (Enable Service) by itself. Even though i have the “Protect Service Settings” box checked including in the “Service List Options” pop up menu along with the “Apply Settings During Operations” box also.
Just check the Readme.txt file
Is there a changelog for what’s changed in each version? Especially v1.3 changes. Thank you
My System: Win10 1803 (updated 01.07.2019)
All Version from Windows Update Blocker blocked Updates (ok), Store and Defender manuell search. Why blocked manuell search defender updates? Can u me help?
Using 1.3
There are 3 Service Status colors:
– GREEN – Enable Service
– RED – Disable Service
– ORANGE – which acts like RED (no updates will get through)
I have to check the status of WUB FIRST before I go to Windows Update. If the color is ORANGE and I have it set to ENABLE SERVICE, I have to press APPLY NOW to make it GREEN.
Is this normal?
This service is working with “trustedInstaller” , Update operations use this service. In addition, different windows tasks and some programs are able to use this service. Please try to disable “Windows Modules Installer Worker” temporarily, if there is a problem restore it. To disable this service please check Google

Any idea why Windows Modules Installer Worker is cranking away?

We can not say STRONGLY , but v1.3 has some advantages , just try it.

##Windows Update Blocker v1.3
I am still on v1.1 with winver 1709 and WUB has worked flawlessly. I have not modified the original Wub.ini file. I read all the posts and while it appears there were a few hiccups along the way for some with v1.2 WUB still seems to be the best out there. In your opinion can I just leave well enough alone and continue happily on with WUB v1.1 or would you STRONGLY recommend that I upgrade to WUB 1.3. Thank you.
